Artist Marcos Alberti has created the 'O project', a series of photos capturing the moments before, during, and after orgasm. The project, done in tandem with well-being brand Smile Makers is intended to break down the barriers of female sexuality, by presenting the often taboo topic of masturbation by women. Too often, the topic is treated with shame and silence, in contrast to male masturbation that is treated as a given in many cultures.
Topics of sexuality are a common taboo in many cultures, especially when it comes to the female side of the matter. To break this wall of secrecy and embarrassment Brazilian photographer Marcos Alberti came up with an idea that he called The O Project, in which he took pictures of 22 women before, during, and after orgasm. The artist teamed up with Smile Makers, an adult toy company, to deliver the message that female pleasure is not something to blush about — it needs to be celebrated.

Marcos Alberti's latest work, suitably dubbed "O Project," aims to present female sexuality as it has never been seen before. To capture the climatic moment of 20 women, he paired up with sex toy company Smile Makers, who believe that being sexually satisfied is the key to being beautiful. Alberti asked each of his subjects to sit on a stool in front of him and pleasure themselves with one of the brand's products.
Izabella Zaydenberg. We always talk about what a man looks like when he experiences an orgasm. Movies and TV shows constantly show a man's "O" face, but when the focus shifts on the woman, it's on her body, not her face.
Marcos hopes his pictures, which show women before, during and after orgasm will open up conversations about female sexual-wellbeing. Each of these women was pictured throughout their climax while using a vibrator. Women from all over the world - including US, China, France and Singapore - agreed to be part of the project in partnership with Smile Makers. Marcos said his main mission was to show "all women deserve to be in control of their sexuality, no matter their background".
