I agree that the hotel you mentioned is in one of the safer areas of Mexico City. It's at 23 Antonio Caso, just a block off Paseo de la Reforma. I walked immediately adjacent to one of the political encampments there - also no worries. They'll pretend that there's no cover charge for the music See All Mexico City Conversations.

If you do decide to visit the Plaza Garibaldi , watch out for hidden "cover charges" in the clubs on the square. However, I would not recommend that anyone walk to the Plaza Garibaldi. What can I do on a layover? I was wondering if anyone could suggest a nice hotel that's under or about 65 dollars a night in a fun part of the city, something centrally located, safe, and clean.
